It’s Thanksgiving Eve, I just finished critical pending work at 10pm, and flipping through my emails, I find a request from 4pm for a vendor contract “every day counts, very urgent, pls do immediately.” How do I respond? I’m traveling at 9am, so I need to sleep and pack tonight. Do I take 2 hours out of Thanksgiving tomorrow? Try to get it in tonight? Tell them to pound sand until Friday/Monday?

C’mon you learned jiu-jitsu by now. Spend btwn 15 min-1 hour flagging a bunch of questions in the doc you want client to answer / accept risk on and send it back to them on a schedule send tomorrow afternoon.

Say I can get it to you by EOD Friday. Their contact, unless they’re in a diff country, is likely not going to look at it until Monday. Also, I hate people that do this shit.

Wait until first thing Friday? It was sent EOD today, a time when many are preparing to log off for Thanksgiving. From what you wrote above, it seems as if it can wait.

I’d say it depends on a combination of whether the late notice is their fault, the consequences, and whether you’ll have support if you ignore it until the weekend. I’d probably wake up early and do it, but if it is entirely their fault then I’d strongly consider telling them to pound sand at least until Saturday.

Ya I wouldn’t spend any of my thanksgiving on that lol

I would say max we could do is 1.5 weeks but adding on 3-5 more days seems almost too much? Thoughts? I have a friend who was let go a few months into his first job after college (reason: the manager felt like he wasn't grasping the training content to the level that was expected). He's worried about if he should put the experience on his resume anyway, if he does will recruiters ask why he had such a short time at this place, and what will recruiters think if he explains he was let go. What are some things recruiters expect from candidates in this situation to continue considering them?

I’m in-house at a small company (60 people), started right out of law school about 5 years ago. We had a legal team of 5 then. Everyone has left and we just hired a new GC. I went from $70k to $100k a little over a year ago. I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. Any thoughts or advice going into this?

How far do you require depts be with negotiating commercial contract terms before your legal review? I’m talking routine low value and risk contracts (e.g., vendor services), where Legal terms won’t kill the deal. My clients blindly forward contracts. I say “are you sure this term is ok?” And often get “no.” They’re surprised because they never read them. Checking the temp to see what others experience, what might be normal. I feel contract training in my clients’ future...

For those working in house, how much “from scratch” document drafting are you doing vs. reviewing and revising “outside documents”. Or are you getting outside counsel to do it?
