I’ve been thinking a lot about safety at work lately. Every week it feels like there’s another report of violence in hospitals, and then this incident at the CDC. I’ve personally had patients yell, throw things, and even grab my arm hard enough to leave a bruise and it rattles you more than you expect. Some facilities have security, others don’t, and often we’re told to just “de-escalate.” Do you actually feel safe in your workplace? What protections (if any) does your employer provide?

The ER in the hospital I work at has some pretty intense security. The rest of the hospital does not. I wish it did, but with the number of people coming and going at all hours, I'm not sure how you'd improve that without airport security-style lines.
