I’ve cleared my background check and have a start date for a new role starting next month. In the meantime, I’ve received a better offer. Is it a bad look to pull out and accept the new offer?

Best advice

like

Yes, it is a bad look. You'll probably be blacklisted at the place you have a start date for. But that by itself doesn't mean it isn't worth it.

like

What? How old are you? No you will not.

like

Do what is alignment with your priorities and values, regardless if that is culture, finances, work flexibility, etc. you must hustle for yourself and give yourself what you want. No one else will do what is in your best interest for you, you MUST do it.

like

D1, what PM1 is saying makes sense. They’re telling you about their experience and what they learned. Just because it doesn’t align with your perspective doesn’t make it wrong. Your responses to them are a reflection of you not them.

Hustle culture is outdated.

like

It’s fine. Things happen

like

Highly agree and companies, HR, hiring managers, etc all know that. It’s not their first time at life.

Do what’s best for you. If you feel the 2nd company is a better fit, go for it.

like

You will be fine. At the end of the day you have to do what’s best for you. They wouldn’t hesitate a second to term you if they needed to. So yes do what you have to do for you and your family.

like

I’d take the other offer but it’s not always about money if the overall pension, and benefits BUT the business is better go for it

It’s a bad look but you need to look out for yourself. No company is going to put your needs ahead of theirs and you should be putting your needs ahead of the company.

I am a contract employee that was just brought on a month ago. I have done well with onboarding and learning their tech. I have now been asked to design an architecture for an upcoming project, and document it all. Nothing at this company has been well documented before. I have a feeling they just planning to use my previous experience and then let me go since my pay is high. Is there a way I can safeguard against this?

I just spoke with a software architect that went back to school to learn software engineering after law school because it was more lucrative and had less hours. He’s worked his way up and has the skills and authority to work 6:30am-10am and gets to work remotely. We discussed that results/outputs is better than billable time like in law and public accounting. Yet, his parents and others would view him as “lazy” but he does his job and makes a fantastic living. Time>Money and Results>Hours

Help - how do I fight claims by scammer healthcare providers?

I recently went to 2 different providers.

Dentist, made appt via Zocdoc to see a dentist that was in network. Another dentist at the location saw me instead who was out of network. I have text evidence they said it would be covered before visit. Claim was denied - asking for ~500 dollars.

Saw a specialist who’s office staff verified my insurance would fully cover the claim. Get the claim, says they are out of network. Owe 600.
