I’ve been fired from a large agency that gets a lot of hate on here, and rightfully so. During my next interview I interviewed with the CEO and when he asked, I said that there was a lot of conflict between account and creative. There wasn’t. He said, “So you quit to get out of that?” I said, “No, I stayed on and fought for the creative and they let me go.” I got hired. And it was an amazing job that I excelled at. Made me realize I belong at smaller agencies that don’t have shitty politics.

If you haven’t been fired, you haven’t lived! I was living with a guy once and I wanted to quit my job but he was like ‘no, you should really get a new job first.’ But I wasn’t finding one. So I started avoiding my boss and hanging out in her bosses office having coffee and telling him my ideas. Then I wrote a Jerry Maguire style manifesto, I even included a SWOT analysis, and gave it to all the C suite people, and my boss. Needless to say, my boss fired me. And the guy I was living with dumped me after that, too. A month later, I got a huge check for an 18 month project and freelanced for 3 years straight. One of the best feelings I ever had was getting myself fired from that miserable place. I pulled a similar move at another job where I sent a letter to the top people (all men) and told them all the ways they were being sexist idiots in their ads with all the accompanying verifiable, data driven reasons why. And, of course, I went to the company Christmas party that night and ordered Rombauer all night long. It took them weirdly long to fire me. I think they were worried I was going to sue for sexual discrimination. Interestingly, a talented and capable female colleague of mine was let go and did sue the sh*t out of them. I just told them what I thought, then got drunk on good Chardonnay. Oh well. I’ve enjoyed both my firings.
P.S. I know Spacey is a bad character in real life (v. disappointing) but the character in this film was so much fun.

I was honest at my last interview. I told them my awesome boss of three years left and we had had a great creative relationship and my new boss just wasn’t the same and so I decided it was time for me to go, too. As they say, people don’t leave jobs, they leave people.
