What’s the average for your area? Sometimes national average can skew higher or lower because of HCOL cities or not enough data etc.
Also, would it be a raise for you if you accepted? Room to grow at the new company? Could still be worth it unless you’d rather continue your search for a better offer.

I m in SoCal. It wud b same salary as last role which had bonus and this one’s doesn’t and the health ins here is expensive vs last job. I’ve also been unemployed for a while so not feeling like i have much choice or options. That said, I am very grateful to have the offer and will accept…just trying to negotiate…have never had luck negotiating in the past.

I’m a Marketing Manager now for a startup in Cali and my base is more than that. I think you could maybe negotiate a bit more?

Yeah- maybe take it but negotiate sign on bonus or equity? You can leverage it for a higher paying job later too

Are there other things that are important to you, like pto or flexible hours you can ask for, if they can budge on base? Agree if seems like there is room to go higher.

Nope they wudnt budge…i accepted and start soon.

Additional Posts in Negotiating Offers

Would love to hear your negotiation wins and fails, and lessons learned. One of my learnings is simply to ask. If you don't ask the answer is definitely no. My example was asking for additional equity. I got back a no, but was offered a signing bonus.

I’m debating what the right thing to do is (protocol wise and for myself personally)
I just received an offer for an internal role I applied for. I am also interviewing externally and today let them know I have an offer in hand. Both external roles I’m interviewing for are significantly higher in comp and title. Would it be bad form to accept the internal role when I know I may be accepting another role and leaving in less than 3 months? (Additional context in comments)

Hi! I have an offer internally within my current org for a level above my current paygrade and they are pushing me to sign the offer. I’m actually waiting to hear back from FAANG(might take 2 weeks from here on). I’m really confused on how I could keep my current internal offer in the loop while I wait for my faang interview results? I don’t want to sign up internally and then later if faang works out I would have to say no to these internal folks..

Hi Fellow Fishes! I need some urgent advice. I had accepted a job offer at a really good company with a good role and team. I am due to start that new job on Monday 30th Aug. Now the thing is I have a better job offer from one of my dream companies-i would be really stupid not to take that offer. So I would be declining the job at the first company just 2 days before i am supposed to start! I know its a good problem to have but a very unpleasant conversation with them. How do i soften the blow?

PwC What’s the better offer? I’m currently an associate at Mercer in Seattle making 115k with a 10% target, but considering an offer in NYC at PWC as senior associate at 140k with a 15%ish target. Also been at current company for only 9 months. Is it worth it to make that transition so early?

How do you deal with counter offers? I have an offer to join a larger tech company in a more senior role, with bonus and RSUs that my current start up can’t match. But my current company want me to stay. They offered an increased base salary which is still below the new offer and I went back and said no, so they might increase. This only came about by me exploring a headhunt approach after being underpaid by my current company for the time I’ve been here . Would you hear them out or just leave?

I have read that many companies may provides candidates with a “golden hello” (sign on bonus) when joining the company. I’m not sure whether this is something that depends on the company, the seniority of the role or the industry of the role itself before I could attempt to negotiate this?

What's the best way to ask for a pay raise?

When I was headhunted for the job, ESG was a relatively new concept and too few companies hire for related positions. I didn't find any salary range from Glassdoor or anywhere so I had no idea. My fault was I did not ask the HR and just gave my asking salary. When I saw a similar post from my company (I was already hired that time), they were already including the pay range and I realized mine was way below. I'm already 2.8 yrs in the role.

Has anyone successfully negotiated a title? I was looking for Senior Manager positions but applied for some Mgr positions too. I’m up for promo next year at my current job as well. The current industry offer meets my comp expectation but planning to see if they would bring me in as a senior manager. There isn’t a set hierarchy for the team as of right now as they are building the team and I’d be reporting to a senior executive. Any talking points/tips that might help me negotiate?
