McKinsey & Company I received an offer from McKinsey & Company in 2021 and I’ll be starting later this year after graduation. Obviously because of the pandemic, inflation is slowly trending upwards. Has anyone asked for a base salary increase before even starting the job? Any advice on how to approach this?

Vanguard is a very open and welcoming culture that prides itself on its diversity and its inclusion. It’s the type of workplace that attracts long haul employees, (they call them crew). Many will start and stay their whole career. For those that stay so long are richly rewarded with a generous 401k match- 10 % contribution, 4% match. The hours, by comparison, are more life balanced than most firms
For some, the culture isn’t quite a fit, by financial services standards, more liberal than most. The starting salary, below average for financial services. (Particularly for non rotational leadership development positions) The opportunity for advancement , can be political (but that can exist anywhere).
Pluses and minuses for sure , if your goals are aggressive and willing to work more than most, you maybe more richly rewarded elsewhere. If you resonate with vanguards mission statement, and prefer work life balance to higher salaries elsewhere, than this maybe the place for you. Especially if you don’t have many opportunities elsewhere , you can always use vanguard as a launching program or leverage the rotational culture to try many positions before settling down.
I would research the company at least a little to know how we operate and show interest to ask smarter questions in an interview. I’d focus your interview prep on yourself. Focus on answering questions with STAR method and really understand what you want and looking for.
