Just curious - do most juniors years 1-3 contribute the max to the standard 401k, mega backdoor Roth 401k if your firm allows it, HSA, plus full backdoor Roth IRA? I thought the answer would be yes but I spoke with some juniors who as if had no clue about any of these

A lot of lawyers are not good with money.

I highly doubt most juniors even know what all of these things are.

I max out my 401k and then max out my backdoor Roth. Then save some cash and pay my loans

like

Yes contribute the max. Money doubles every 7.2 years and you can’t get the time back

like

I did this - except firm didn’t have mega backdoor option

like

Yes 3 years in and 300k+ just in that account with growth. I also contributed during my summer but not the max

I maxed out my 401k and backdoor Roth IRA when I was a junior. I didn’t have a mega back door option, but I don’t think I would’ve been in a position years 1-3 to be maxing that out if I had. I’m also not sure it would’ve been a good idea to do so as that would’ve meant I wasn’t building the non-retirement assets I needed to buy a home.

I max my 401(k), HSA, and Roth IRA.

I certainly do

Hi, I was curious if anyone had any jobs or companies that had a position with a mix of consulting/healthcare/pharmaceutical. I currently work in clinical operations and research, and would love to jump or learn into a tech side company with pharmaceutical exposure. Not sure if these are out there but figured I’d see!

Do you all feel that the Health Insurance choice is actually all the same? The coverage is absolutely copy and paste for Bronze to Platinum and the deductible/copay is very similar.
I just don’t understand why we have the illusion of “choice” if the offer is the same and it is really bad (in our case).
Going from $61 per paycheck for 2.5k deductible 75% copay to $500+ per paycheck with 500 deductible 85% copay.

Mortgage PITI payment would be about 50% of take home pay, but it fits easily within my budget. We max out 401k, HSA, and backdoor Roth. We also have about 150k in savings in case things get tight and saving an additional 1k per month. Is this still too tight?

Estimated tax payment question:
I converted $30k of rollover 401k into a Roth IRA and have $26k of realized ST Capital Gains this year (Roth conversion in end of Q1 and most capital gains in Q2).
My total federal withholding tax last year was approximately $12k and this year I will have 40% more in reported income on my employer W2 and anticipate higher that $12k federal withholding for my new job. Given this, what is the best way to go about making est. tax payments for the income (continued.)

I said I can't stay with this cause i got 70% and expect at least 50%(as the 70% included VP and the current org don't have vp, they have bonus). Then they said they can do max 45%. I really wanted to stay here so I said okay to current. Then now hr called me and said they are matching the offer(no vp). What should I make out of it? What made them change their mind?

Hey Guys. Regarding the forced layoffs in PS. It’s high time we unite and hit them back. I’ll request all people who’ll receive the video connect email from PS to do one important thing. Use a a pen camera or a hidden camera(small) in your pocket before attending the call and record the call and events. These peoples should not be spared. Try to get some evidence and let’s expose to public media and other legal teams. You can do this anonymously thereby saving others from this crap.

Most HRs these days ask for previous salary slips/ bonus/hike letters without even quoting their offer. Should we proceed with what they want? Is it ethical? Any pros/cons
Any views?
I am thinking beyond just verifying if the candidate is not lying on the current salary but what if they don't even have the budget to what the candidate has asked as expectation.
