congrats on status! see you in economy!
Silver status is nothing to write home about
OP - no need to get ants in your pants. Just saying that silver won’t get you far. In the words of Biggie, “if you don’t know, now you know”.
Welcome to the status layer cake OP!! It means you will be considered for an upgrade behind all the other ranks. Silver medallion means you get preference if there are no gold, platinum, or diamond medallion (or 360) holders ahead of you. So - flying from a regional airport to another regional airport in the middle of the day might get you an upgrade. In short - it means nothing. Indeed, getting upgraded to anything is by chance for the lowly silver medallioners... and yes, you still have to pay $5 for crappy headphones.
It means you don’t need vouchers or anything where you have to decide whether to spend a limited quantity of upgrades. But as others have said, you’re ranked behind higher tier medallion travelers. So your probability of getting an upgrade isn’t great.
During poor weather or irregular operations you might score an upgrade, it’s not out of the question. Flying LAX-JFK this March on a Monday afternoon, we were delayed 2 hours due to JFK weather. The Delta One cabin was already lightly booked, and the majority of them switched to the earlier flight. There were 27 upgrades to Delta One; all status members cleared regardless of level and even nonrevs got DL1.
It does mean that you can move up into E+ when you check in, assuming there’s anything left at that point.
I have gotten upgraded a some times to comfort plus when I was silver, so don't worry about the haters. And yes it will show up PM your app if you got upgraded. Make sure that you have updated you settings to automatically apply for an upgrade.
no, it won't
