Just started as an audit associate at a regional firm last month. When I'm meeting new people and they ask what I do, I never know whether to tell them I'm an auditor or an accountant. My non-finance friends get confused by the auditor title. What do you all usually tell people?

After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? How do you feel about you are not progressing anymore and seeing other people progressing in their career? I have no intention to make partner, but still feel a bit stuck not doing that much.

How long does it usually take to clear conflicts? Mid level. Around 50 client matters.

I am a Chartered accountant and truth be told given the current times CA is a really low incentive education any potent person can get. Today I see engineers barely with a few years of experience earning lakhs per month. Whereas me despite being in the right place at the right time is working hard 10-11 hours each day even today. We as a forebearers of this profession must really rise together

I’ve been told my company is changing my title from Associate Director of BD to Sales Executive. I’m concerned it reads like a title demotion. Is it just semantics? How will this look for my career development? Curious about the standard perception of Sales Executive from a seniority perspective. Where does this land on the sales roles hierarchy? For context, it’s a professional services firm, I’ve been there 3+years, and they gave a Sales Executive title to someone who just started 5mo ago.

So, I'm sure this has been discussed. What would be a cut off for when to leave without necessarily burning bridges? End of October? End of November?

Just got a rousing pep talk from my partner about how being a partner in public accounting is the “greatest career anyone could ever dream of”. Feel like he’s still trying to talk himself into it, too.

Does anyone have any insight into partners retiring early? I am at a point where I need to consider leaving if I am not aiming for partner. I don’t see myself working past my 40s. Unfortunately was dragged into an audit despite the fact I don’t work in audit. Why does audit RM say yeah your hours will be 50 hours/week when you’ll have to work way more to do the audit. Seems very dumb - if you have work do it, if not don’t work…

Does industry have billable hours? At the big 4, we are required to work a certain number of hours each week and if we spend too much time on anything we are questioned on why it took so long. Is that a thing when you go in industry?

What are some key differences between US GAAP audit and IFRS audit?
