KPMG Advisory just made me an offer to join them for a 15% base raise plus sign on bonus. Will PwC negotiate to keep me or will I get in trouble for telling them I have an offer with a competitor?

They might match but you could potentially be flagged / looked over for promotion

Also, as I manager I am assuming you have a director or a partner as your coach, if you think if you have a great relationship with your RP or coach, I think there is no harm in testing the waters. If I were you, I will put the question as a general query to them rather than a decision that you are trying to make.

like

If you are anything less than a manager or not a star performer as a manger or above, then I do not see why any company should negotiate with you.

like

If you think the 2.5 million account and any pipeline that you have will take you to director in an year or two then I think you should chuck the 15% hike for now. Also, I doubt PwC does any kind of negotiations on offers from competing firm. Been with the firm for 6 years and have never heard of that.

like

Having been involved in retention attempts a good number of times during my time at PwC, and also stayed in part because of one, the partners will negotiate to keep higher performers. That said, as others have noted, 15% isn't much of a bump to jump firms. I don't even entertain offers for less than 20% but would give it serious thought north of 25-30%; obviously industry demand for your specialty matters. If you're seriously considering the other offer, and don't have otherwise desire to leave the firm, it is absolutely fair and quite professional to give PwC a chance to retain you. As a team lead, little frustrates me more in people management than when a good performer just quits without even talking to me and doesn't want to entertain staying. While I won't outright call that unprofessional, the most common class of individual who does that is the person who is leaving their first job after college and doesn't really know how to go about it. Negotiate, politely. It is almost certain to end better that way regardless of your ultimate decision.

But I think the best way to find out is to make up your mind to stay only if PWC offers something better and then resigning to see if they do.

like

Hmm, agree with SA1, need to play that carefully. The match or better offer should come from PwC if they value you in a way...

like

And a 15% hike isn't worth jumping in my opinion, especially if you are managing that kind of business here. Agree with p1 that you should stick it out if you see growth on your line of work. Will take you a while to rebuild your network if you jump c

like

Echo the same here, matching offers / retention bouses do exist (usually have time-leashes) but think through the cost-benefit of adding this "event" to your personal brand.

I wouldn't jump for the 15% hike, focus on the long game.

Why do you want to leave? How many years in are you? KPMG is a less mature firm, if you are that good they should bring you in at Sr Mgr

Good advice. I appreciate it. I'm a high performing manager currently managing a $2.5 million engagement on my own for a growing tech consulting practice. Just trying to figure out if I can ask PwC to match, or would they risk losing me.

Hey folks. Question for the majority of us still under the big 3 holding co’s...are raises a thing anymore? I’ve been at my (smaller) agency almost 5yrs and got one raise (a nice $12k bump) during that time—is that sufficient? Is one increase in that span normal? I also recognize being somewhere 5 years is rare these days. The honeymoon period at any agency seems to be 2.5—3yrs before bolting. Not complaining, just asking. Have y’all been getting raises/bumps in any kind of regular cycle? Thx.
