So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?
Got laid off today at deloitte. Is anyone hiring

This is the year we see some big changes at HoldCo’s. Maybe they merge with one another? Maybe they divest? But the current structure with top people making millions and layers and layers of bureaucracy is not sustainable.
Yeah I was told the CFO’s refused to negotiate who would have the lead role and they torpedoed the deal. Which, in hindsight was a blessing in disguise for Omnicom.
Holdcos deserve to go under. What purpose do they serve aside from creating IT/infrastructure synergies and preventing conflicts of interest? No agency ever got more creative when a holdco snaps them up.
Publicis is spending billions on data and useless tech (Epsilon acquisition, Marcel). WPP leaders have come out and said creativity isn’t there strong suit at the moment. Omnicom’s We Are Unlimited data/programmatic approach to creativity was an unequivocal dud. A couple more bad investments and/or decisions might be enough to sink one of the smaller networks like MDC, whose creative agencies are already trying to buy themselves out.
I think more than likely the bigger agencies within holdcos would find a way to pool money together and buy themselves out or mass resign and pull a Sterling Cooper
Always worried, never feel safe in advertising 😒
Never feeling safe in advertising is a perfectly appropriate response.
The heyday of the holding company is gone. It’s now all about the numbers. Clients are fickle, CMOs changing every two years or less, economic pressures, changing retail landscape, etc. DDB just lost two large accounts so OMC will require a reckoning—i.e. you can’t keep “X” number of people that aren’t paid for by client business. They are not in the business of investing in people—you must hit the bottom line. I am a product of holding company “downsizing”—even though my accounts, numbers, margins, etc were some of the best in the biz. But I made too much money and therefore had a target on my back. I will absolutely not go back to work in Advertising for a holding company. An independent, perhaps. But I think my talents can be best applied elsewhere.
Independents aren't any better. The last place I worked assured me they didn't do layoffs cause of the way they were structured, but had 2 rounds of layoffs in 2019.
Time to come to the dark (consulting) side.
In DDB's case, they're just cutting out dead wood.
There you go DDB1.... DDB2 I'm so sorry to hear and sending hugs your way.
What's happened at DDB? NY?
They have lost State Farm, McDonald’s and now capital one in less than a years time. Not lookin good
I guess my other question is: do holding companies have the power to close all the agencies in their network? Literally just turn the lights off if they declare bankruptcy.
I guess I’m just imagining a scenario where either the holding company would sell of the most valuable agencies then shut the rest down they’d have trouble offloading
Or, clients get nervous about continuity of service so they take their projects/accounts elsewhere. Sort of a run on the bank, but with agencies. The holding company just shuts the entire operation down.
My guess is SOWs are finally being signed off for the year’s deliverables and some aren’t as what was expected?
Do we know yet where Capital One is moving to?
Their HQ is Virginia @AD2. So probably doesn’t matter for Cap One which city. SXSW vs Lolapalooza. 😀
