Looking for a new job- aiming for about 200k salary or so- one of the options is a firm where I’d be an independent consultant- how much would you ask for per hour? I can do the straight calculation after considering insurance, match, self employment tax etc... but given the additional uncertainty I’m not sure what to ask for.

Remember the lack of any benefits and the 7.5 % employer version of FICA in calculating how much you want.

Yep that’s in my spreadsheet :) More concerned about the intangibles... like after you figure out a break even point between salary vs self employed- would you say the pay has to be a certain percent higher knowing that that paycheck will change week to week? Certainly not thinking that the premium would have to be similar to if I was thing about truly striking out on my own and needed a return on the business risk as well.

The argument that climate change is not man-made has been disproven by science over and over again, yet many people believe that the global crisis is either not real, not of our making, or both, in part because the news media deliberately chooses not to talk about it because it doesn't sell enough.
