People like this love to exert that control, but the fact is that no one in an org is important enough to choose not to work with others.
Why not address the ineffective employee?
According to some/most, they aren't ineffective. It's this person's opinion.
Lol, perhaps reticent is not strong enough. How to handle when someone checks out and refuses to engage a peer they find ineffective?
I would explain that part of their job is to work with everyone on the team regardless of their personal feelings. I'd probably say explicitly that this employee is currently not meeting your expectations and you need to see an immediate change in how they handle this to make sure they get the message that it is serious
