Looking for feedback on a car purchase. Currently financing a Volvo XC90 hybrid, about 2 years left in payments (or about $30k) and ~30k miles. I have cash offers (i.e., Carvana) for close to $50k. With that as a down payment, I could purchase a brand new 2025 model at nearly no incremental cost, albeit slightly higher rates and minimum term is 36 months. My wife is attached to our car because the R-Design styling is discontinued. I prefer brand new and latest tech. Any reasons to NOT do this?

You should just be leasing cars if you always want new and the latest tech.

like

Yeah but that’s not the question or the situation

How about the insurance cost?

It should be the same, my car is a 2022 model so also relatively new

Since this is a personal finance bowl and assuming you want the most sensible answer for smart finance... i would say keep your current car as long as you can. No need to get the latest if your wife likes the car and you can have it paid off in 2 years.
If you have the money to blow on a new car "just because" and you have other aspects of your financial life in check. Go for it. Only you know if this makes sense in your financial life.

Maybe my question wasn’t that clear or you didn’t read my post thoroughly. but I would literally not be paying any more than what I am paying now for my car because I have nearly $20k in positive equity. $30k left on my loan versus $50k market value. So if I were to sell my car and upgrade to the latest model I would still only be paying give or take $30k.

My question was if there are any reasons against doing this that I’m not kidding.

If the numbers you say are correct it doesn't really matter besides maybe 3% interest difference. If you like the deal, do it. If they are getting you with the "we can get you the new version for same monthly payment, but only 2 more years of financing" I'd reconsider.

I can't find a 2025 model less than 58k after dealer discounts around me. I don't know how Volvo does there trim tiers so I may only see upper trim versions.

Also, if you see yourself wanting new again in a few years, I'd entertain the lease option someone else suggested. Sell to carvana, then use your net proceeds to pay the upfront cost and put the rest in a HYSA to pull from.

None get the latest one as I would do the same

Need advice. Have some credit card debt that I’ve been working to pay off. Have made progress but want to lower it quickly. We have dual income, with a house (~$300k in equity), 1 kid and 1 on the way. I’ve looked into debt consolidation via HELOC but also have ~$80k in vested equity in my company that I haven’t touched. Get equity refreshes every year. Would it be smarter to cash out $15k-$20k of that to pay debt vs. a HELOC at ~5% given that will still require mthly payments
