Hear me out. The Griffith Observatory. Have a picnic. BUT. Don’t hike it. Just park in a free parking lot nearby and Uber to the top 🙂

A cooking class date....you prep and cook your meal together (think the movie Hitch)
They have painting/wine classes that can be a date.
Color Me Mine!
A day at the Getty.
Whatever it is, hopefully it's mindless enough that you and your date can enjoy engaging conversation during the activity.
Have fun. Good luck.
My favorites have been taking on a challenge or learning something together. Some ideas / things I’ve liked:
- an escape room
- a film at the upcoming Pan African Film Fest (went last year saw some great movies)
- put a spending limit on a date that you collaborate on (maybe not so good for a first date, but it’s fun, challenging, and interesting and gets more creative than splashing out 💰on a date)
- trek to a neighborhood you’ve never been to like go explore Little Saigon in Garden Grove
- go to a LA library or local book shop event (Skylight has a ton)
- explore and be a tourist by going on an LA hop on / hop off tour
- go to Santa Anita racetracks and bet on horses
- check out a jazz performance, Just Jazz puts on great events
- take any kind of class together
The LA Conservancy runs some great walking architecture tours downtown. There are also off the beaten path tours of places like the Schindler House and Hollyhock. In the summer there is wine tasting on Fridays on the lawn by Hollyhock. The Hammer does some good docent led tours and things like weekday meditation ( and the restaurant there is excellent). LACMA always makes for a pleasant day. You can go to MoCA and the Broad in one day, walk over to Disney Hall (and I mean that literally since you can walk across the roof) then head to Grant Central Market for food. You can also gallery hop pretty easily in Culver City or the Arts District. Thee is also evening horseback riding in Griffith Park that I believe goes to a Mexican restaurant and back. Last, if you’re looking for some good views, there is a free observation deck at the top of City Hall, or the rotating bar at the top of the Bonaventure. Not sure of the status of the bar since Covid but fun in a very 80s architecture kind of way. Plus you can try to recall every movie the building has been in (it’s a lot).
Museum dates are fun. Allows for natural pause. Experience something together to discuss/dissect. Grab lunch/coffee at cafe later if want to continue.

Some of my favorites were the Huntington Library...very grounding, beautiful while getting a nice walk. Another one was going to a mini concert where we danced as they say pegadito (#iykyk). The venue had the best mix of people, energy & music. I also enjoy doing the bike ride from Santa Monica to Venice & then grabbing a bite & soaking up the sun on the beach.
Yay us. We’re giving the best recs!!
Thanks everyone! Some great stuff here
High tea at the Huntington Gardens. Nice mix of a seated conversational setting, ability to stroll through a beautiful setting and a museum/art/library setting all in one.
