God these posts make me cringe. There are so many great watches out there, why degrade yourself for a Rolex?
Fair enough. Unfortunately it’s the game to play though if you want one and I just wanted some advice. I’ve always wanted a Rolex since seeing the ads when I was a kid and growing up in a working class family it was a goal of mine once I started making decent money.
Definitely looking at other great watches but figured if I’m going to spend the money might as well try to get a chance of a Rolex in the next couple years too.

Smaller market AD’s are a much better bet, but you also need to be local.

I live in SF and frequent 2 AD’s. One is Shreve and the other is Heller. Both are great but it’ll be tricky to get a GMT from either. Subs/Explorers are more straightforward
Some further context: ideally would like to pickup a Sub/Explorer and GMT sometime over the next 1-3 years. Been sitting on the sideline and ready to start my watch journey, so I was planning on buying a couple watches this year while also starting the relationship game with a Rolex AD. Since I don’t plan on staying in SF for more than 2 years, wondering if it’s worth looking at a smaller market where maybe demand is slightly less and I can maintain the purchase history longer if 2 years won’t get me a Pepsi or Batman.
I’ve heard mixed things on Tourneau (such as most Rolex allocations go to the whales) and the other dealer, Shreeve & Co, doesn’t carry some of the watches I was looking at getting like Omega and Cartier. Thanks in advance!

If you’re willing to buy two watches you don’t really want to build a relationship, just spend the money and go grey market.
