Man all these anti-MBA posts.

Fact is, most people don’t care a ton if you get an MBA or not.

But only people who know they can’t get into a top program go out of their way to badmouth the MBA.

I agree that some people badmouth MBAs out of jealousy, but there are also some of those “elite” MBAs who act like they are superior to everyone who doesn’t have one—which may also lead to some of the badmouthing.

There are great people coming out of those programs, which us why the elite firms recruit from them. There is also no reason to think someone at one of those elite firms is “less than” if they didn’t get the elite MBA.

Eh disagree on the latter statement. While I’m sure some people use degradation to offset some inferiority complex for not getting into top programs, often we end up working with MBAs with zero consulting experience, sometimes zero business experience, who think constantly talking about a case study or class elevates them above their peers. I’ll point out it’s basically the same behavior seen from recent undergrads from top programs and both usually get over it in a year or two

As a first year MBA, I can confirm a notable percentage of my peers are insufferable. I go out of my way to learn and make my teams successful in whatever capacity required. I believe I’m getting better and my reviews support that.

I agree, no one gives a shit after a short time if you are into any type of job. Either you are a good one or you are not. MBA or not. People work with you because of you and not any fancy titles.

I do have one, but from a non-prestigious school. I already was a consultant at the time and did it on weekends. Why? Because I was interested in the curricula and finished it because of sole personal interest. In my professional surrounding people respected the time and money (~25k€) I have put into, but still wanted me to finish my stuff as usual. And that was completely fine. I don’t really think it helped me in my professional career - especially as I think they are not such a big deal in Europe as they might be in the US.

So if anyone considers doing an MBA: Do it if you want to do it. Leave it if you don’t want to do it

Nobody cares about degrees. Basic business knowledge and practical application is far more important. For some, the MBA provided the overview, but the real value is in the contacts

Hi all, looking for advice.

I'm a technical writer with background in the hardware and healthcare industry. What would be a better option for me, pivoting into software tech writing or project management.

Which one pays better/is better (any advice appreciated, must be fully remote role)

If software tech writing, does anyone have advice on how to break into a role or learn what it takes to become one?
