@D1: former Deloitter who left earlier this year for Google - would say we can reach out to alumni for chats about exit ops, but we don’t have a structured program ... at MBB, they get 2-3 months of full pay to job search - at Analyst and above levels.
@K1: ah okay, I guess I didn’t hear about it then. Think it’s fair to say that it’s not as broad reaching / openly publicized to all D folk (as you mention it’s only for select groups) vs. MBB I hear they let you know of this perk Day 1 ...
@P2 — program is called Career Services. Unless we’ve changed the name. We do love to do that.
MBB has this because they have a more strict up or out model.
Firms have it because alumni will bring business opprtunities to them. It is not as altruistic as you may think it is.
@D2 ZS Associates are those guys who say things like, "coffee is for closers," while the rest of us all ask "who are ZS Associates?" 🤣
K does too. We have MBB style sabbatical programs where you can imbedded in a client org for 6 months or a year+. Our websites are full of alumni showcases and so are internal portals
My friend at McK has 8 weeks paid while looks for another gig and it supported by his Partners etc. I wish I worked at McK
Google1, at what level did you leave? I'm starting to do a soft look for external opps, but am reluctant to go all in because there just isn't enough of my time to focus on that and also maintain client work. Both can be full time jobs. I think the only leverage I have is firm initiatives - not taking on anything new.
@A2 what program is this?
I think we should be clear — most of the people who get explicit help connecting with alumni get it because they are being “counseled to leave”, ie, pushed out involuntarily. Folks who leave pure voluntarily typically made their own connections. So, this isn’t really about the leaving Person’s or the organization’s willingness to get/give the help ...
@D3: yeah, I’m in the Strategy & Ops vertical so still doing strategy work, just for one client haha. More pay & responsibility with less hours - hard to complain!
Also apologies to other folks on this thread - will try and avoid topic shifts since focus is on programs consulting firms have to facilitate exits.
KPMG does
I work for PwC and have never heard of us doing it.
It definitely happens at PwC. The challenge is twofold though; if the employee states that they're looking for a move to industry they have to trust that they won't get burned. And if, say, a Partner sees an opportunity at a client that someone may like, recommending it may accidentally come across as a hint that they should leave.
What is ZS Associates?
Nah Deloitte/Accenture/PwC has nowhere close to the support that MBB provides, based on what I have seen..
@sm1 that's it. Couldn't remember the name
Agree with EY1, not a program but leveraging a close network is all.
I think the firm wants to place top performers in companies. As this would mean we have a friend on the other side. However, I know EY has no formal program in the America’s. As a matter of fact, once you announce you are interested in leaving or are leaving. The firm wants you to transition work and get you off any high profile work quickly. Been here for 9 years in advisory, and it’s been the same case.
The only time there was an exception is in 09? When the firm mad lay offs and the partners were mandated to help those that were impacted to find roles at their clients.
Now with that said, I never known a partner to decline helping if the person had such a relationship.
Also KPMG1, whatever the actual reason, there probably is a stigma, hence why I specifically used that term.
PwC only does it for directors and above
Anyone heard of something like that at BAH?
