MBB helps their employees find an exit opp via alumni connections and an internal job search. Why doesn’t Big 4/ACN/IBM do that? It’s looked down upon to say you are interested in leaving.

Agree with EY1, not a program but leveraging a close network is all. I think the firm wants to place top performers in companies. As this would mean we have a friend on the other side. However, I know EY has no formal program in the America’s. As a matter of fact, once you announce you are interested in leaving or are leaving. The firm wants you to transition work and get you off any high profile work quickly. Been here for 9 years in advisory, and it’s been the same case. The only time there was an exception is in 09? When the firm mad lay offs and the partners were mandated to help those that were impacted to find roles at their clients. Now with that said, I never known a partner to decline helping if the person had such a relationship.

I think we should be clear — most of the people who get explicit help connecting with alumni get it because they are being “counseled to leave”, ie, pushed out involuntarily. Folks who leave pure voluntarily typically made their own connections. So, this isn’t really about the leaving Person’s or the organization’s willingness to get/give the help ...

@D1: former Deloitter who left earlier this year for Google - would say we can reach out to alumni for chats about exit ops, but we don’t have a structured program ... at MBB, they get 2-3 months of full pay to job search - at Analyst and above levels.

like

Really? Never heard of that at P

like

Because then they will hire MBB.

PwC does that.

Deloitte does as well.

G1 — Deloitte has the Seeker program which does the same thing, at least in Consulting

like

at Accenture there is a program to support people as they look for new jobs. But it isn’t something that is give to everyone and is not publicized

like

@K1: ah okay, I guess I didn’t hear about it then. Think it’s fair to say that it’s not as broad reaching / openly publicized to all D folk (as you mention it’s only for select groups) vs. MBB I hear they let you know of this perk Day 1 ...

like

To be fair, the Seeker program is only M and above, is not well publicized (probably on purpose?), and requires one to be accepted into it (whatever that means). Also not sure what stigma there is when ppl can see you're still technically employed for those two months but basically have given your FU to the firm.

like

@D2 you know there are plenty of reasons someone may have for leaving that aren't, "giving a bit fu to the firm," right?

Lol EY2, you’re right, then that’s not a “program” and more like personal network. Laughable.

likehelpful

We have a program that allows you to do that as well. Fantastic program to have - healthy mentality for any company.

like

@google1 Deloitte does have that as well for some areas

like

Yes PwC does it very seriously and also push them into Industry so that they have made relationship.

like

@D folk (but really D2): that’s exactly my point - Seeker exists, but it isn’t heavily publicized and is only M or above. just not a comparable offering to what MBB has - which is available to all (BA and above) and is widely publicized.

like

We do that at EY and have placed a number of our folks at clients. It is not a formal program and you basically need to have a good relationship with a Partner, so they can pull on their internal connections and those can reach out to clients. That said, it is getting better and “friend of the firm” track is at least being discussed.

like

@Accenture 2 what is this program ?

Anyone know anything like this for EY?

like

EY does at SM level when you’re not going to make PPED. Also not widely publicized nor open to everyone

Hi Tax Bowlers, I'm an experienced associate (2yrs) in a Big 4 Transfer Pricing division. I have reached a point in my career where I am considering taking up a professional certification. Several colleagues recommended taking up either ACCA or CFA, however, I see little connection between these certifications and the work that I am currently doing, and what I plan to do in the future. What would you guys suggest? Would it be detrimental to my career if I did not take up any certifications?
