I work at an aerospace company in repair. I dont have a ton of experience to speak to aerospace more widely, but in my division the engineers do their own design and CAD. But our design stuff is mostly solving tooling issues.
I have noticed in automotive it is more spilt up like you mentioned, where there are folks who just do the CAD. These people didn't usually have engineering degrees.
I will add you certainly dont have to have an aerospace engineering degree to work in aerospace, most engineers dont. I'm mechanical engineering and bioengineering.
Thanks for your reply, it's an encouraging one! I had a feeling that with aerospace, the engineers did their own CAD work as well. I do have my mechanical degree and I guess there's a small ray of hope where I just have to keep trying and applying. I did apply for a few Tool Design I positions but didn't make the initial cut. I am in the Denver area where the industry is relatively healthy, however, any positions available are so far above my punching weight.
Your thoughts on gaining entry via a technician role is something I had not previously considered, but I will look into that. I appreciate your thoughts!
