Have said it before. Director. Everything flows down to you and everything flows up to you. You have to do your job and mine to move up. Was the worst role of my career

Your scale is completely different for big 4 and Accenture, the majority of people here:
Associate/staff - 0-2,3
Senior/consultant - 3 - 5
Manger - 6 - 8
Senior manager - 9 - 12
Partner +
At ZS - manager. For some of the same reasons listed. Stretched in all directions. Hardest role I ever had - and I am thankful for all those who encouraged me to stick it out.
I agree with P1.
Associate - easiest role I was in. The most difficult thing for me is to stay awake the whole day for an 8 hr job.
Sr Associate - this is where you think you know everything and you don’t have any pressure to sell. Just do what you are good at and you are golden.
Manager - Getting tough but not as much. Having additional metric to judge you against but since this is your first time, it’s still lenient for first few years.
Director - like P1 said. You are not the boss. And everyone expect you to over delivery, not just client work but also those extra curricular. This is where the +1 kicks in. Clients expect you to justify your high rate and the firm expect you to justify your high salary. Unless you’ve built a team to support you, you will struggle.
Partner - I don’t know because I’m not one. I thought they just sit around in the office. 😉
What about directors? Where do we stand?
Toughest is the Manager role as you get no appreciation for 3-5 yrs and even more. You ge measured on 8 parameters apart from the regular performance metrics and god save you if you are not homegrown manager.. its never ending journey. Its the true reflection of ‘You have only right to work but not its fruits’. And by the way there is no direction or mentoring from anyone at this level..
ZS - Manager w/o any questions. One year in an I’ve seriously thought of quitting more than once. Thankless, least amount of guidance, lots of intangible feedback (eg. ‘engage the partner more when the partner is literally invisible’), and a sudden exposure to politics which are technically absent in the firm until this point. AP/P could be more but I won’t know for a while now:)
Associate dude. Treated like dirt.
Some make manager 3-4 years out of undergrad here, same at McK. The pressure seems ludicrous for someone so young.
Associate Partner/Director - Worst job by far
The SM / associate principal role. You have all of the pressure of above without the reward.
I've heard Senior Associate (L2) and Junior Partner are the worst.
I think its just titles shifting. Our managers are closer to SMs. It's the point where you're more in control of your projects.
As an Associate, I will quit before I make Director. All the pressure of the partnership, none of the reward
Manager. Thankless job.
D1 I wish I just sat around the office 😊. Based on my experience outside ZS I would say the manager role is the highest stress. At least at PW though I worked the longest hours when I was a consultant
