My agency is looking to add a part-time bus dev role to help us continue to grow. It could become full time if the work starts to flow. Any other small agencies willing to share your approach to bringing on new talent in this area?

Hi there! I’ve seen this work but a part time situation will probably be more like a rep situation where you pay some stipend then heavy on commission. Only down side versus hiring a full time person is you have much less control. But if you find the right person and you are good giving them long leash and lots of flexibility it could be a great fit. Small risk on your part. Would be interesting to know more about the type of agency and type of clientele. Biz dev can either be sales focused and simply getting introductions or it can be a principal team member driving the main focus of the agency. Or you could focus energy on building content to drive in bound. As opposed to outreach. Wide range.

Any advice for an experienced HR professional with SHRM-SCP? I was downsized from my last job as a VP of Admin wanted to go with Coordinator/Assistant structure. Been in HR for nearly 20 years with mostly generalist experience. Managed a function and/or people for most of that time. Senior level in my experience, but definitely not executive level. (Limited budgeting and PM experience.) Having a horrible time finding a new role! Getting a lot of interviews but no offers and getting discouraged.

What’s the best way to make the jump from trust administrator to wealth strategist? I’m an attorney and trust administrator but I don’t have enough experience on the planning side, dealing with life insurance and business succession planning to get a decent paying wealth strategist job. What certifications would be best to bridge that gap? CTFA, CFP, CWS? Bring a lawyer, I always poopoo-ed things like CWS that seemed salesy and like something that only matters to Cannon.

I find myself looking for a new role in agency / production company biz dev. I co-founded a creative production agency back in 2010. Grew it to a staff of 80 FTE, creating strategic content-driven campaigns for brands, tv networks, streamers, platforms, publishers etc. We developed and produced original TV as well. Around 2016 we positioned the company for sale and then sold in Jan 2019. After going over to the acquirer in 2020, I’m now free for the first time in a long time. What to do?

I’ve been working on a pitch that continues to get delayed and it’s poorly managed. The RFI was due in July. Then days AFTER submission I received an email from the consultant saying we now had until August. End of September rolls around and frankly I had forgotten about this 100-page beast. They want a meet and greet….the following week. The day before the meet and greet we get a list of questions (that aren’t easy softballs). Now 2 weeks later and nothing. I’ve had bad experiences with New Business hired in the past. As in, nothing happened over 6-12 month periods bad. My agency (independent national player with Fortune 500 clients) is asking me to help search for a dedicated resource to business development. What should I be looking for and what should the agency’s expectations be? Thank you!

Fishies, I am hiring a partner in crime to help me introduce PETERMAYER to the national stage. This isn't your typical biz dev role - it's designed to be a hybrid/cross-discipline role for someone who wants to use their full creative, strategic brain and most definitely NOT stay in their lane. Know anyone that sounds like that, send them my way! (Agency is full-time flex/hybrid, but a desire to be NOLA-based is strongly preferred; however remote may be negotiable.)
