I have an offer from Mercer to join as module lead with 12.5 fix CTC and annual incentive plan which is not clearly mentioned in offer letter. My joining date is 31st October so as per company policy anyone joining after 1st oct won't be eligible for appraisal cycle nor for annual incentive plan..which makes my package 12.5 lacs for next one and a half year.
Not sure if it would be a wise decision, current CTC is 9.08 lacs Mercer

Would the internal position be a lateral move? I'm guessing yes, since the pay rate is similar to what you're already making. Personally, I'd stick it out for the promotion, but my professional goal is to move up the ladder as quickly as possible. If the other job interests you more and you're not keen to climb the ranks just yet, then go for it. At the end of the day, you have to do what's right for you and only you can decide what that is.
Make your decision based on what you think is best for yourself. As much as your boss has been helpful to provide resources, if there is another opportunity that is better fit for you, you should absolutely go for it.
Do what's right for you and your family if applicable. In account management you have to be good enough to do the sales job and smart enough to be happy with account management. When I was raising 3 kids and married, Account Management was golden/Loved it for the work life balance, I left a Sales Executive (Carrier) Role for Account Management at a brokerage and it was the best decision I ever made for myself at the time.
Underwriting is a GREAT area and so is Account Management. Sales Support is also a great area.
Thank you for your advice and for the recommendation to look onto Underwriting. I’ll sure keep my eye open on such opportunities and see where that take me. I appreciate your feedback!
For context, the pay at my current position is 53K and the pay for the position I am looking to apply to is in the range of 45 - 65K. I like the the internal position because it requires much sets of skills, Excel, data, budgeting etc… which I enjoy working on. I just know that by approaching my boss with the news of being interested in that other position in a different department can be disappointing and could be a reason for him to act up towards me especially if I don’t get the job.
Please help.
Thank you,
I say apply and see what happens. Go for the role you want.
You have to remember it's your career, not anyone else's. You have to go for roles that feel right for you and if your at a good company your boss will support that not matter what.
What's the attraction of the new position? Higher salary?
Skill set is what really attracts me to the position. I know that getting that position will definitely enable me to gain more skills that could be transferable to any industries. The pay I’m not so sure of how great is the pay however the skill set is what attracts me.
