I absolutely don’t believe this bc that is straight up illegal. They can’t outright admit that they are going to make layoff decisions based on gender, gender is a protected class. No firm is dumb enough to say that.
Also, I am female and would love more gender equality, but not if it means more qualified ppl are fired so I can keep my job for a statistic

I'd bet it works. See: Harvard
I am just so saddened by all of these comments. People here seems to think there aren’t qualified women who can do the job 😭😭. This is so sad. There are many many qualified women who are actually doing the job without getting the title or the pay.
I have a daughter and hope that by the time she grows up, that this mindset goes away. I work around lots of smart women.
As if men haven't been chosen based on what's between their legs.

They missed the memo, racial equality is in vogue now

It was a joke, insensitive in retrospect, but not meant to target anyone or push any agenda. Apologies for the offense caused.
I believe the world is made up of men and women 50/50. I’ve seen a statistic that states 51% women and 49% men. In any event, it’s about equal.
Interesting to know why we don’t expect those numbers to be reflected in the workplace. Just saying.🤔

BAH1 In an ideal world we could all have great work life balance and still all be wildly successful in our careers. However, there is a certain reality check that leading a large organization carries with it tremendous responsibility. You can’t just say oh well I’m only working 9-5, I don’t care if the organization and the performance of the business suffers as a result.
In a free market system there is ruthless competition. In consulting there is always a competing firm ready to displace your firm and steal the business. If you are not responsive to client demands and internal responsibilities, and someone else is, either within your firm or a competing firm, they will surpass you.
I am 100% behind any woman who wants a career, and they should have the same opportunities as any man to hold leadership positions. In any case where they are held back due to sexism, that is wrong and should not be tolerated.
Even when all that is working as it should though, leading a large organization is a very demanding job. Ask any Principal at a consulting firm, male or female, just how demanding their job is and they’ll probably give you an earful, and it increases as they rise up the leadership ranks of the partnership. You can’t wish away the demands of those positions in a competitive environment.
Wow... Don't know if this approach is better or worse.

Sounds like they actually are covering their bases because they know they are keeping more men. They can say they tried in good faith to address the gender gap knowing they won’t.

This is exactly what happened at Uber. The promoted only women in a promo cycle after their fiasco and lost tons of great male resources in the process.

Just to flip it, think of how many great women in Corp America have left companies because a majority of men were being promoted. It seems the pendulum is never center but always on one side or the other.
