I’d rather invest in cosmetic dermatology. Lasers, peels, facials, etc.
Totally. I love the laser treatments I get that help reduce bumps or imperfections on my skin. I am way more self conscious about my pores and skin texture than I am about any fine lines. I don't think botox would affect our skin any differently than white girls though
I’ve gotten it in my jaw to help with TMJ (clenching/grinding). No side effects and pain is super minimal. But I don’t have the wrinkles around my eyes and forehead that my white friends get it for. I wouldn’t worry about preventative if you have good skin.
My college bestie(blk) has gotten lip filler, and she loves it.
From my understanding, the filler she gets lasts 6-12 months before it starts to shift. And she can't use any actives (retinol, salicylic acid) for the first week after she has has it done.
She did plenty of research. She knows what to do and what not to do, and she is good.
I asked her for you, and she recommends:
1. Doing your own EXTENSIVE research whether you are getting cosmetic (filler, frown lines, etc) or preventative botox (sweating, migraines, etc).
2. Be sure to research cost, as the majority of cosmetic procedures do require some form of maintenance and upkeep over the long term.
3. Then, take your research to a few well-respected cosmetic aestheticians or doctors for consults before you commit.
TAKEAWAYS:
Even though botox/filler is considered no surgical enhancement, any medical procedure will have short-term and long-term effects. In addition, no one has the exact same outcomes.
No matter what you decide, remember that you should do it for YOU. Your entire friend group could want tattoos, but if it doesn't truly resonate with you, you owe NOONE participation in anything.
Good luck💜
Yeah super thorough advice and recommendations! I just wanted to point out the differences to OP since filler typically has more side effects and immediate visible swelling and bruising compared to Botox which is a prick mark and the effects set in over time.
I don’t think we need it but you can try it and ask someone you can trust outside of them to give you a truthful opinion etc on how it looks on you or just let some other friends go first lol
