Believe it or not, I was 36 yrs old 4 years ago, and was a first year teacher in a self-contained classroom for children with severe autism. I also went through a similar situation that horrific year. I have learned it is crucial to become a member of a teacher union with legal support. I have also learned that you have to document that conversation and send an email following up on the conversation. You may already receive these types of follow up emails. "Today during our meeting in our office you said....." My attorney recently told me that without documentation, everything that was said is lost in the wind.
Most importantly, you need to request reasonable accommodations for your disability ASAP. They cannot deny you ADA accommodations. They are not obligated to provide them unless you request them. I would start by concluding your follow-up email with " I am now requesting reasonable accommodations under ADA to help me perform the essential functions of my job." That should get the ball rolling. I would either CC hr in the email or forward your email to them.
I am going to get a hold of our education association. We are both members. Our state doesn’t have unions but it’s the closest thing. And that’s a really good piece of advice about the conversations. Because, of course, every thing was a conversation. He’s just so tired of struggling that he’s not sure if he wants to be a teacher. He is so good with students. It’s the adults who make it difficult.
Not going to find much help, those initial first year contracts are full of clauses that allow a district to not renew a contract.
At least in TX I should add.
Why was he told to resign?
