Have you considered trying to find an activity that ties in to their interests but is outdoors?
Example: if they like fantasy books they might enjoy medieval combat recreations (that stuff is a workout believe me), video games might suggest paintball or shooting ranges, there’s wilderness survival classes, martial arts...
I would just listen to them, and encourage them in their activities if that makes them happy?
Buy them books about outdoor things and then parlay that into an outdoor experience. For example, get a book about weird bug facts, then take them out to find the bugs. You can even get some dollar store magnifying glasses and bug containers to make it more fun.
Scavenger hunt for a 20 dollar LEGO box. Hide the box and the 3-4 different bags that divide up each set and the instructions. Then you’ve got like 4-6 different locations for them and at the end they take it inside and work on it while you enjoy the win. Mine always want me to “watch me” as they assemble the legos but don’t want me to help... just watch. I always explain, hey that’s as boring as possible for me, but I’ll do that for a few minutes, if you’ll also try things that I enjoy as well. I try to have a symbiotic relationship with my little nerds and help them understand my effort in that. The LEGO scavenger hunt was a huge win for us
Introduce them to Messi or Ronaldo in person or on TV and they will start going outdoors.
Scouting. At the Boy Scout level at least they’re preparing for the next camp out where they’ll work with knives, build fires, and cook what they want to eat
I don’t see the problem.
Moderation in all things
Foster their interests. No shame in being an indoors person as long as you're a good person and you are living healthy.
Walks like little scavenger hunts often do the trick. Also if you're up for it, get a dog. That tends to get everyone outside...
How old are they? When you do “force them” to get out do they have fun ?
It always feels like I’m forcing them to go out and it doesn’t feel good :) it should be fun. Any suggestions on how to handle?
Read books and play legos with them
Paintball
Funny. My son is the exact opposite. Sometimes I just want him to watch a movie so dad can take a break
