Also tell your wife that while it’s cute to talk about she’s guilt tripping you
70 hour workweeks are horrible for families. When I got into this I thought busy season would only be for a few months of the year but it's 5 damn months of working 60-70 a week. I'd rather be with 40 somewhere else, be "poor" and still have see my family. Change my mind or I'm out
I think a lot of us feel the same, that's why the turnover is high. I say go for what makes you happy.
Try doing a few things to schedule more time into your day. You can FaceTime every night before bed, that’s a good place to start. Talk to whomever you need to and see if you can make one night a week that you can split at a normal time to spend some time before bed. As long as you are getting your hours in, people should understand. If it’s possible, have your significant other bring your children to the office for dinner one night a week. If you can make these things habitual, and schedule your time accordingly, it helps.
Yeah OP, better being poorer and working 40, I can attest. Took a slight pay cut for industry job and it's the best thing I've ever done. I see and play with my kids for a few hours each day now compared to the FaceTime messages at bed. Life is better for me on the outside. Family is more important than work
