Please if you can help and advise?
I have just joined Amazon Retail as sr Program Manager a month ago. I miss banking/technology now. I have heard that I can move teams. I know it’s too early so I don’t know how to approach this situation and potential HMs. Reaching out to this community to seek help if you have similar roles for which you (or your network) is hiring, would you be able to help? It’s better to be in a relevant role and be best than performing poor in current role. Please help.

In the grand scheme of a 40 year career these 2 years will be nothing. Try not to stress, if anything you’re more equipped than others at your level and will get to where you want to be in due time.
Thank you so much! Thinking about the big picture does help put things into perspective
I was in the same position but a senior for 6 years and they talked to me about an early promotion after year 1 until they found out I don’t have a cpa. It’s tough but I’ve outperformed all my colleagues and even at a different firm now moved up to senior manager in 1.5 years of being manager. People notice when your title does or doesn’t match your abilities. They’ve given me a path to partner in 3-4 years and currently grooming me. Ability to execute will eventually always win out and salary/ title will catch up. Keep looking within to refine the person in you, focus on your craft and whatever you do, you’ll crush.
Well done!! Thank you so much for sharing. This is so encouraging
I’m in the same position but with making PPMD. I learned to be okay with it by focusing on the work and viewing everyone as a friend instead of competition or a measuring stick. This perspective take intentional practice but it gets easier after a year.
Thank you for sharing! I do need to be more intentional about changing my mindset

It’s all going to be about how quickly you can get to the point to meet the expectations of a senior manager. I’d assumed your technical skills are where they should be irregardless of your 2 year delay? If so, start talking with your coach or mentor about how to accelerate getting to the other business stuff of being a SM - building teams, selling work, really owning engagements and work streams. It’s doable but you may need to make some sacrifices in terms of WLB to get there as quick as you want to.
Thank you so much. This is great advice! (& Yes, my skills are where they should be)
I know public accounting can make it feel like a race, but it really is not. You are not behind, you are right where you are supposed to be.
I would cut out all the external voices - linkedin, this app etc and really lean into what you truly want and go from there.
Thank you so much. I needed to hear this 🥹
With the CPA the only thing holding you back, were you acting in a manager capacity for the last 2 years?
Yes I was
Apply to middle market firms and leave for SM title/pay bump.
