It didn’t work for me. I had to find a new job. I’m much happier now and wish I had made the change sooner instead of trying to trying to make it work for as long as I did.
My last job was like this and it was a nightmare for my ADHD. It was in house and pretty everyone except for the head of the department had a cubicle. If it’s feasible with the office setup, you could ask for an office or desk space in a quieter part of the office (or to work from home if you are more productive there) as an accommodation.
This would honestly be one of the very few narrow scenarios I would pull the ADHD reasonable accommodation card. Especially because it’s a new experiment in your office. If you were doing fine before and they changed the conditions and it’s affecting your productivity/quality of work, absolutely stand up for yourself. Speak to your psychiatrist first to give them a heads up bc you will likely need something for HR, but absolutely go to bat for yourself on this one. If you’re on the edge of leaving anyway, why not give it a try to see if a solution can be worked out? Worst case scenario is that the whole thing backfires and you go look for a new job (with a potential discrimination/retaliation lawsuit).
