You will put in work without pay for the time that your authorization is not available. You will need submit your laptop and phone as you would have to taken off payroll. Once your i9 is reverified you can get clearance to get back on payroll
This exact situation happened to me last year. I asked my company to go on an unpaid leave of absence during that gap. Happy to talk over DM if you’d like. But basically, most companies have an unpaid LOA policy. During that time you are not on payroll, so you don’t violate any USCIS rules; but you are not unemployed either.
I would also recommend you to reach out to your congressman/woman office to help speed up the GC work authorization. I did that and got mine within 2.5 months.

Hi EY1 - did you end up sending a letter to your congressman? I am about to do the same and was hoping you could share how it went for you, whether it helped, etc. Thanks!
Reach out to your Talent Business Advisor, they’ll work with right immigration folks.

Set up a call with your immigration team and someone from HR, the answer should come from them. EY terminates contracts if the application is still pending, I reckon Deloitte would do the same. Going through the exact same thing now.

Yes that's what they typically do. In these circumstances however the partner couldn't give me any guarantees, but said unless there are massive layoffs in our practice or a complete hiring freeze (which he believes is unlikely) they'll hire me back.
