How does the L5 YOE match up to your relevant YOE? Also, as an FYI, SC/M aren't standardized levels in consulting--depending on the firm, they could be anywhere from ~4-10+ YOE.
My current total YOE is approximately 6.5. I’m debating between going to L5 with Amazon, staying a senior at my current place (big4) and hope to get promoted soon or jump to a boutique consulting firm as a Manager. Total Comp. is approximately the same at Amazon, Boutique firm (& if I get promoted, at my current firm too)
L5 seems right. An L6 with under 10 YOE is pretty rare, and given stack ranking you'll want to be a defensible position.
If you want L6 because of extra pay, you can push for it. If they offer it to you then it means that they believe you have the skills required to operate at that level.
L6s and above are SMEs (everyone is just as smart or most likely smarter than you at that level), and you are required to know it all because it's your job to mentor L4s and L5s.
L6 can be pretty demanding, so I recomend that you go with L5. You can push for promotion after 1.5 years.
