Need some advice, I’m a third year healthcare/corp/M&A associate in Texas from a small firm. Was let go today because of recent hires and not enough billable work. Feel like I should try everything possible to secure another job and still a bit shocked. So if anyone in this bowl has any leads, please let me k ow! TIA!

Hi there! Although I’m not an attorney, I do have experience of being let go from a job. (Idk why this popped up on my front page). Anyway, it’s understandable why you would want to jump right into the job search, however it’s important to get through the initial shock (especially if you weren’t expecting this). I suggest taking the next few days into the weekend to relax, take a beat, eat a delicious meal, call someone to vent, do yoga, whatever, and then hit the job search bright and early Monday morning. Also, make sure to apply for unemployment tomorrow. You’ll find something (and something probably even better!). You got this!

Big law Texas offices are hiring like crazy. Might need to take a class year cut but blanket your applications all over the place.

like

That’s wild.

I would also ask if your old firm will keep your profile up on their website at least for a little bit.

like

Yes. This is super important. It has impacted friends. You also need to be able to tell the "why you left" story in a neutral to upbeat way. This will take time and practice.

Glad you will be headed to somewhere that appreciates you!

Hey OP, you’re totally going to get something in Texas. I made this switch from a small unknown firm to a v20. Not going to comment on how much better life is here, but I will help you if you need. DM if you’re interested.

Everyone here is correct. M&A/Corp is significantly understaffed. You can get a job if you prepare.

Don’t blanket yourself just yet. If you don’t know what you’re doing while applying, it’s a bad idea to blanket yourself hastily. You may burn potential opportunities, so I would take a day to sit with the situation, prepare and target.

Use this app to your advantage. Follow up with everyone who invites you to chat.

Best of luck. You got this

Healthcare M&A attorneys are super in demand, at least in the New York area. You’ll find something.

We're hiring in Texas, especially Dallas. Healthcare, biglaw, slightly below market but also fewer hours than market firms (most associates were around 2000 this year, and this year was crazy). Love my firm's culture. Feel free to DM me.

PM’ed you!

DM me - I know a firm that's growing their healthcare/life sciences practice and actively looking for candidates!
