...in my 9m of motherhood so far, these last few days have been the hardest. Trying to care for while also staying away from a hubby who’s sick, taking care of a baby who won’t sleep all the sudden and also being sick myself. Sleeping on the sofa in fits, wondering why we’re stupid enough to live on the other side of the country from our families. Never thought I’d feel that way, as I’m not super close to my mom, but really wish I could call in some backup support right about now!
I’m on the same boat. I’m out of my country. It's too hard.
My family is far away and lives somewhere I really, really don’t want to live, so I had to tough it out. I survived but it was pretty miserable, especially for the first year! Being sick and with a sick baby with no help is the worst. Believe me that things will get better and you will get through it. Eventually you will have all the viruses and not get sick any more!!
This group is so great. Makes us feel better.
I live about 90 minutes from my family, and I loved it pre-child, but being a solo mom with a 5 yo makes it incredibly tough. Build your support network. When coworkers/friends offer help, learn to take it. They offer because they've been in the same position before or have empathy. The "it takes a village" is so true.
Also, the first few years are rougher. By 3, my kid built up his immune system enough between school and daycare that he's rarely sick now. There is an end in sight!
Don't be afraid to be kind to yourself. Give yourself a break in the midst of all this.
💕 Hugs it is so hard. I hope you all feel better.
We moved closer to family in the burbs for this reason. And to be able to afford childcare (he's in daycare). We both work full time and have been practically living at the pediatrician's office for the past 6 months. My son just turned 1 and he's sick again. 🤦♀️ Thank God my sister works from home and can help out if we're really in a bind. And I'm fortunate that work has been really understanding. Hang in there! Hope you all feel better!
If you have the space, see if you can swing an au pair. Great value - is amazing at times like you describe. Changed our lives from a childcare perspective.
My kids are now 5 and 8 and the time you refer to was still the hardest so far although we do have my mom close by. And last flu season, 3 out of 4 of us were sick on and off for 6 weeks straight. I’m bracing myself.
