It’s odd he wouldn’t look at your book. I would try to get him to walk through some recent work and give you advice on how to improve. Maybe send your book to a trusted mentor or CD/AD and see what they say?
This doesn’t sounds good.
I can’t believe he was able to judge without even look at your book. Could be this a age-related issue? Unfortunately the only way is prove the opposite: do what he ask you, be focus, slowly get involve with other art directors, gives your opinion. Someone in the team would surely became your advocate!
I know is annoying process but also consider you are a junior and for what I understand the previous experience are internships. Is this your first full time role?
Again, this isn’t good! You must be trained, pushed, disciplined (for process etc) ...they must give you the opportunity to growth and improve. Are you sure this is the agency you want to work with? Because if you don’t have the opportunity to test your talent you take the risk of staying junior!! I don’t ask my juniors to manage millions ‘dollars project, but at the same time, I put them in front of escalating challenges....because I want them turn into senior one day!
As I understood, your manager doesn’t do anything of what I mentioned here, so...find a good co worker and turn him/her into your mentor.
