New grad here. Recently started a job for an O&G firm as a credit analyst. Studied finance but my internships were never really related to Finance so I was able this job as a “stepping stone” to start my finance career. What do you guys think regarding career progression? Interested in Corp. Finance roles and Corp. Dev - comp. is slightly below industry average. Should I suck it out for a few years to transfer within the firm or should I stay for 1-2 years & then try to make the jump?

Soak up as much knowledge as you possible can. Identify what you’re passionate about while learning, then make the switch. You have a bright future!

Financial reporting now, totally unrelated from the first job but found it as a helpful stepping stone.

If you like your current job and you are learning, then staying for a year or two will be okay. Try to expand your skills and experiences in that field first so that you'll have more opportunities later on.

However, I’m just exhausted, unmotivated, and and looking for a change. At this point (6.5 yrs of practice), is that type of transition even possible or am I stuck due to the practice area?

And is the variable paid fully usually? Thanks in advance for your insights.
