New hobbies during covid 19’thing

Hi!! I got some awesome feedback about pivoting into the tech industry and networking seemed to be a hot topic. Can anyone offer tips on networking (virtually bc covid) when you’re starting with little to no connections? Moreover, how to come across like an actual person trying to connect and not just someone random asking you for an “in” at your company?

How has COVID affected your workload, if at all? My group has a lot more work to do, and less resources with which to do it. But I don't worry about layoffs, so overall I'm happy to be where I am.

We are so close to the middle of the year and I've yet to do anything I said I would once things calmed down from covid 😔

Anyone ever been offered the “mommy track” without warning and without being pregnant? Hours are lower than normal, but the firm is still expecting us to meet hour requirements in spite of COVID negatively impacting certain practice areas disproportionately (including my area). Was blindsided by an alternative arrangement “offer” from our COO (non-attorney) a couple of weeks ago - no details on what the offer entails, but this feels like a short-sided move, not to mention sexist. Thoughts?

Hi There - I'm considering a role in consulting. The role is London based and as some of you may know the commute into London by train is significantly expensive (especially compared to my pre-covid commute by car). So that I can properly consider any offers I may get - can you claim expenses generally when travelling to client site, if that client site is also in London (albeit a different part of London to where your home office).

Husband is extremely stressed at his work , overworked and in a toxic environment. He puts in 12- 13 hrs days and I end up doing most of child care & house work along with my job. Feeling depressed because I just did a more realistic budget calculation for a March trip to Spain. B/w the need for refundable flight and hotels (I normally do airbnb and don’t care about refundable flights, and I don’t have enough miles and can only get us partial coverage at 1 hotel out of 2) plus covid tests, the trip is about $1000-2000 more/pp than I anticipated. Started with a new company back in March of this year, and after having a handful of managers at my old company that were solid with personal development of their employees, my current manager at the new company could use work in that area…it’s non-existent.
