#1 priority is salary + hours. “Salary” includes realistic bonuses without working like a dog.
If you’re an insurance defense firm offering $120k and demanding 2,000 hours…those are not enticing anymore. I think people nowadays realize how dumpy it is to work the same hours as Big Law and get paid half. So if you’re not offering big money, you gotta lower your ask.
#2 is WFH flexibility. Only make employees come in if actually necessary to perform their tasks. Not for “work culture.”
Would need more info. Location? Comp? What are the benefits? Offering hybrid/remote?
I agree with the comments above. I would add autonomy but with support. Let people do the job without micromanaging, yet give them support an ear to listen when they have a question or issue they haven’t encountered.
Also - don’t put a word in the job posting about how you are a “family” or have some amazing work culture. That’s not believable for a second and sends the exact opposite message - that you will work me like a dog and give me tiny treats.
