New to consulting travel and all that. Just missed my flight, what are my options? Do I just buy a new ticket through Amex Travel or is there something the airline can do? Or other? 😓

Okay deep breath. Tell the gate agent. They’ll put you on another flight.

like

Turn in your laptop, you're cooked

like

Believe you are authorized to purchase a first class seat if you miss your original flight, the firm eats the cost

like

I actually appreciated everyone's reassurance. I'm sure it will happen again, this was my first time.

like

Airline offered to rebook me to tomorrow as it was their last flight of the day (Virgin America) on the route. So I called Amex and they booked me on a United flight for $350 - which was painful. I'll have to explain to my manager that this happened, hopefully it won't be too terrible. I'm usually on time which is why I didn't know what to do in this situation. Thank you for all your help fellow 🐠!

like

To be clear, I don’t think any company would make you pay the difference yourself.

like

As everyone else said, take a breath, explain to gate agent, see if you can get another flight no cost. If they charge you, and if it’s a client related delay to the airport, discuss with and explain situation to your PM and leadership.

like

Just call Amex, ask them to put you on standby, and if they charge you more talk to your manager and explain the situation and see if you can charge it to the project

like

Easy, try to get onto another flight and / or rebooked / new flight, it happens, Project covers. Just make sure it doesn’t happen every week

like

Just call airline or talk to gate agents they will put you in new flight. Try to contain the difference in fair. If any difference in fair pay through corporate card.

like

I missed my flight before, I know the feeling.

Take a deep breath, and relax

You will be put on standby for the next flight to ur location

like

You will be put on standby for every flight to your location, until one of the passengers on ur flight misses their flight

Sometimes it takes a couple flights to actually get on a flight because you are on standby by

You will only get on the flight if someone misses their flight, that’s how standby works

like

Don’t worry OP, it happens to everyone! That’s why I try to get direct flights if they are under firm policy rates.

But KPMG1 is correct, it will most likely happen again because connecting flights ALWAYS get delayed!

If I have connecting flight, I usually try not to schedule it back to back from my original flight, I try to give myself a little cushion of time, like an hour at least

Just relax, and get a drink, or watch netflix on ur phone....(hopefully you have a power bank for ur device)

Best wishes OP👍

Tim Ryan is going to tea bag you now

like

Not a big deal. Take the next best option, work from the airport and let your team know. No one is going to care.

like

If you can next time call/talk to your booking agent or the airline when you realize you won’t make the flight. Some fares lose value if you’re a “no show”, so communicating this to them either because you’re stuck in traffic or your connecting inbound is delayed and having them look for alternatives usually turns out better and lower stress. That said, all the above about just talking to folks at the airport is true. This happens from the perspective of reservation and gate agents all the time.

like

LOL @ everyone who is saying take a breath. So condescending. Welcome to consulting OP, get used to that

Get a taxi to the bus station

OP call Travel and ask if they can reimburse you for the other flight you missed. There’s a buffer so sometimes they can. Not sure if it would work at end of year but I was able to get reimbursed for a flight I missed once.

I'll be in premium economy in an aisle seat. I usually take melatonin before bed and sleep on my side. Any craft beer brewers here?

In the last two year I’ve gotten more and more into alcohol free beer. The selection in my country (Europe) is still small and mainly driven by the big brands (e.g. Heineken). My idea is to start my own small brewery which only produces alcohol free beer as a bit of a pendant to the booming local craft beer industry. Any thoughts on that idea or someone who has experience in the market?

I was recently negotiating a case and was told part of the reason the claims rep/OC was jerking me around was because they didn’t see me as a plaintiffs attorney. Is there any way to change this perception or does it just come over time?
