Newbie to investing...perhaps a dumb question but anyone know if there is a prevailing school of thought re: investing frequency? Want to stay mostly passive (ie 1-2 index funds)

Yeah, google dollar cost averaging for the theory. In practice, set amount every month makes sense.

Depends on your brokerage costs.
If zero, invest as much as you can, each pay cheque.
If you pay some brokerage, consider waiting a few months until the brokerage is a smaller percentage of your purchase.

An accrual based C-Corp taxpayer completed a Chapter 11 reorganization and converted a total of $1M A/P to suppliers into a $410K LT note (a $590K liability reduction). Should we view this $590K as the Sec. 108(a)(1)(A) excludable income? After reading through IRS Pub 4681, I think it makes sense to view the $590 as "Reduced Price After Purchase", but not

Hi all, I have a question regarding retirement accounts. I am not sure if I should choose a Roth or 401k (company has 4+2% match). Currently 23, base salary is ~100k and investments have brought 45k this year which has me teetering between a 22-24% tax bracket. Wondering what the usual tax bracket is of people retired (around 65yo) as I’m not sure anything would bring in significant income with the exception of investments. In my case would a Roth make sense? Appreciate any answers!!

I’m planning on getting my real estate license this spring! My biggest hesitation is that I currently live downtown Chicago and do not own a car. Is there a definitive guide to cost of living? The obvious cost of living centers (SF, NYC, LA etc.) get covered a lot, but I’m wondering where my city falls. It’s a modest Midwest city with ~100k residents but is a relatively touristy spot. It often feels like a MCOL area but I’m not sure how to adequately judge that, and it would be helpful to know when comparing salaries and the like.
