Accenture strat 10/10, espec given your technology-driven aspirations... #1 for technology strategy consulting by Vault, and #5 for Strategy Consulting (above Strategy& who came in #6) . Also, concerns about S& culture and integration challenges seem to not be going away.
As you can tell, i’m not biased at all :-). Good luck and congrats!!
It’s not a burn it’s just facts
Biggest factor for you should be the nature of work. I hope you realize that in Deal Strategy you will mostly work on short due diligence projects so little travel, but IB hours. S& DS is also really strong in terms of project flow and exit options from what I see, but only relevant if you are seeking M&A or PE. Since you plan on Tech Strategy i would say that the fit with S& DS is not really there
Agree with this. If you want to do strategy in technology that would be standard strategy roles. DS team is a lot of due Diligence not tech so might be a bad fit long term
Ultimate goal is to exit into tech strategy. S& probably sets me up better but imagine Accenture will do the trick also + I’ll be happier working 70hr weeks with people I like. Am I thinking about this wrong?

Update to thread: I ended up choosing Accenture strategy and am now exiting to a dream role in industry. The last two years with ACN have been wonderful, I chose people and made the right decision.
Amazing and very happy for you! I agree the culture is an under rated aspect when picking a job even if it can be difficult to assess it across different companies.
Upward and onward
Yeah, S& comp is much better but still not enough of a difference for me to choose them on money alone. Culture is really important.
Makes sense, thanks.
Admittedly was curious because people don’t usually think of my firm (ZS) as being in “strategy” but those examples are exclusively the types of projects I’ve been on.
Granted less common in our traditional pharma work, which can be pretty heavily operational and tactical (e.g., sales force sizing, territory design, etc)
Which vertical? Every vertical has its own culture so just remember to think about the people from your vertical you've met vs S& in general.
It’s all cost take out from what I understand + WLB is terrible
Do you want to do tech strategy or strategy at a tech company? If the former, then you can’t go wrong with Accenture. Otherwise S& will set you up way better
Then make sure you’re talking to people in the TMT vertical
So I don’t work in deals strategy but I do have worked with them and think they are pretty good to work with. Solid group that works hard, brings great perspective and has solid juniors they are building
Culture here has been a struggle no doubt but I do believe we have turned the corner from some of the merger blues. Being a stand alone strategy house and then getting merged into a bigger firm has had growing pains. That said, I think our leadership has curtailed a lot of the BS and culture negativity that arose from those pains.
Overall companies I think PwC wins over Accenture and I had the opportunity for both. no regrets. If you are working on deals, we win a lot if that work and compete with MBB and sometimes EY... Never heard of Accenture deals being strong but could be wrong.
Make no mistake, a lot of what you will here is the same if any strategy group in a big 4.
Happy to talk if you like as well.
You probably won’t be working 70 hour weeks at ACN just saying. You will, however, be paid much less.
Can Strategy& people comment on the culture? Which verticals are particularly good or bad?
Did you get those vibes from the S& folks when you interviewed or is this just what you've heard?
Hmmm. Thats hard because people at interviews tend to be on their best behavior and you got those vibes. If culture is as important as you say, go with your gut. I don't think the exit opps will be that impacted
I have worked with really great people at s& / pwc. You may have gotten a weird subset- the company is big. Which city?
Deals is full of great people. I’m in HIA.
Two great offers- congrats!
Did you ask them about the work you would be doing? Which feels like a better fit for you?
