Okay so I started at my new company a few months ago and was able to negotiate for a higher salary. A second person for the same position/level was hired a month after me...(cont.)

Let them do the job they were hired to do and let the cards fall where they fall. Work on your own talents and negotiating skills for your next review. Take a breath and focus on you. You were happy with your new job and the salary you negotiated before you “found out” right?

like

Like 20K which is significant for me. Yes I was content before I found out...definitely always very stressed with my workload tho. So now knowing what I know it’s just a slap in the face

like

Leave. If you’re not motivated, you’re no good to yourself or the people you manage. Your situation sucks, but there are people that look up to you.

Just keep working hard, mind your own business, and when the time comes to ask for a raise, be comforted by the fact that you know you can probs get a significant increase. That’s a good thing! If they don’t give it to you at that time, THEN you can be mad. The only person you should be mad at right now is yourself for not being a better negotiator.

like

This is why the saying, “Comparison is the thief of joy” is so apt. If you were happy before you learned about the other person’s salary—and nothing else changed—then why not just choose to remain happy? And are you SURE you have accurate information about your colleague’s pay? Is it possible someone is exaggerating, spreading rumor or speculating?

like

And I just found out that they are making a significant amount more than I am. We’re the same age and have the same job description (we each handle 50% of the business, and one half is not really a heavier workload than the other).
I’m extremely discouraged at this point because I feel that I do way more than this person. They use all of the templates and reports that I spent hours creating by myself (I’m forced to share these with the person because my boss wants consistency across the entire company).
I’m always working late and on weekends, while they leave early and never work on off hours. The rest of my team has even told me theres a huge difference between my work ethic and the other manager’s.
I already had to negotiate my salary when I got the offer, and I haven’t really been there long enough to ask for more...but I can’t justify continuing to work this hard and contribute all that I have been when I that this person is not really doing shit but still getting paid more.

What do I do?

like

And?

I agree with CCO 1. While I understand your frustration on some level, you were happy before, so don't let someone else's situation ruin that for you. And again, people do exaggerate. Unless you've seen a pay stub, it may not be accurate. At the end of the day, someone will always have it a little bit better. That's just life.

Don’t get me wrong, this is always a not so great feeling especially when you feel you outperform the other person. However, there are a lot of variables here. Was the person hired at a time where the company was desperate to fill a role? Did they meet you at your salary ask or negotiate you down? If they met your ask you can’t necessarily blame them for not proactively upping it. Perhaps this other person is just a stronger negotiator. At the end of the day it’s a great learning experience for understanding your value. Unfortunately in my experience it is pretty difficult to renegotiate a large raise while remaining at your current company. Typically see big raises come out of a counter offer when you are able to go in the market place and get a new offer at the salary you want and bring it back to your current job to match. The only thing with that is that you have to be OK with them not matching and be prepared to leave.

I read that some women don’t really “feel” pregnant until 6-7 weeks… but i did “feel” then stopped. It just sucks. If you have any advice for coping, I’d appreciate it.
