We do have a San Francisco office and I want to ask my boss to match me what staff are making there. As that’s more comparable. One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

How do you assess whether you are a strategic thinker?

And is there a way to learn/improve it?

So I’m only contributing to 401k enough to get employer match, and I’m saving an additional ~20% and putting 90% of that into my vanguard mutual funds. Reasoning is that I don’t want to lock away all that money maxing out 401k. Have 3 months expenses liquid in a savings account. Is this really dumb? Essentially trading tax for the option of actually using my money.

Joining EY soon. Should I be worried about layoffs happening supposedly in June/July?
