Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).

They may have given away a lot of the employee common pool already (or not had one outside of founders) and need board approval to get more, which is a hassle not worth taking for one employee. If the startup is late stage they can probably make the offer worth it with just cash but early stage you're taking on a lot of risk with capped upside so not worth it
Sounds like you joined a bad startup that is struggling with the finances.
If they struggle with finances they would do the opposite - load you on equity and offer less Base and bonus.
Was the bonus linked to specific metrics? If yes and you hit those outcomes, send them a lawyer’s letter

I don’t know your next best alternative in terms of employment or if the non equity is sufficient.
End of day what matters is if you are willing to walk. If this is a red line issue you could say as much. You could also demand additional cash bonus.
