PA 130k base with 5-10% bonus plus long hours vs Industry 100k base with 30-40% bonus decent hours. Which one for long term?

Realistically PA is not a long term for most people. I don’t know the exact stats but I would guess that only 10-20% PA mgrs make partner or MD. Do you you realistically think that you are going to make partner or MD? If the opportunity is good in private, I would take it. Some examples of a good opportunity are the company is doing well with healthy YOY growth, good learning opportunity and nice bosses.

The higher your level the less opportunities. It’s all a pyramid. I would take the opportunity in industry to give it a try. Worst case is after 6mo-1yr you go back to PA. They will always take you back. Or maybe try another client service type position in accounting advisory or something.

What are the role titles of each option?

I’m assuming audit manager in PA right? And 100k base seems a little low

PA will have more growth

Op is borderline SM

What salary range would you describe as middle class.

LCOL I considered my family middle class when my dad made 50k in the 90s. Life seemed alright.

25 years later my dad and I both are at around 170, but I still consider us middle class like we were in the 90s, but now it feels like more of a struggle

Is there a way I can approach this with my leaders? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)
