One question I’d ask myself is can/do I want to afford the property taxes on that place outside of upkeep?
Guessing you’d be looking at a massive bill annually, and are you in a position to afford that. If the answer is yes then I’d 100% take the house.

Um take the house or give it to me I’ll take it
Don’t be an idiot. Take the house then rent it out and keep the equity if you ever want to sell it. As long as your parents are ok with that
How much are the property taxes?
If the house is in decent condition, it would be in great demand solely for the schools. Get a reputable firm to lease the house for you.
How much built-in gain is in the house? It may be a lot more cost effective for them to sell the property (and get a $500k tax exemption for gain up to that amount) than gifting it to you have having you sell it. also, a bit morbid, but if your parents are very elderly and there is a ton of built in gain, they should rent it out until they pass and gift it to you, at which point you can sell w/o paying taxes. Also depends on the size of their estate since it could get caught up in gift taxes, if you have super wealthy parents.
Why does no one want to give me a $2 million (at least!) house?
I’ll take it, I volunteer as tribute!
If you gift it to me I’ll give you our place in the M Streets
M Streets as well. Much easier to manage. I’ll give you ours OP
Gift it to you how? I believe if they die and give it to you you’ll take a stepped up basis in the house and can sell it without virtually any taxable gain. Totally understand not wanting to live in childhood home tho. If they sell it tho - they’ll have an influx of cash. Might spend it. Might do who knows what with it. Who knows if you ever see that money again. Which I know is a weird way to think about it but it’s true

oh brother
You have no idea what you’re giving away if you do that…..
Take the house omg
