I have a fair amount of retail experience and have created a bowl to help fellow consultants who are interviewing in retail and CPG. My experience is across a wide range of topics (primarily non technical) and would love to help folks get their dream job. Would be awesome if others can join and contribute their knowledge.

I just got one for Manager at LinkedIn for 170k base, 280k RSU over 4 years, 60k signing split over two years and 20% target bonus. 7yoe.
TC 280-300k fully remote permanently.
This is legit for offer for 2 years post MBA Manager level. I’ve never heard of signing bonuses being split across 2 years either.
I’m not really sure about the fully remote part - there’s a handful of roles right now that are fully remote. Otherwise folks are eligible to petition to become fully remote with Exec approval and have a mandatory comp adjustment depending on where you move to.
Bonus at Manager level is also standardized across the company I believe at 15%. 20% would be Senior Manager. However bonuses were funded at 150% or so this year, so many managers did get 20%+.
Another non-tech reporting, for comparison’s sake. Industrial F500. LCOL city.
12 YOE. Base 255, target 545. CEO-3 level.
I have hired former consultants into my team at TC 250-325 for Managers and TC 150-225 for Analysts and Associates.
Tech is shiny, and for every non-technical FANG role that pays more than 200, there’s serious competition. And many (not all) of those jobs are about optimizing ads or increasing “engagement” some other mission of dubious value. Helping LinkedIn try to “monetize” my network, or Facebook try to create Zuckerberg’s Metaverse...
Meanwhile, there’s much easier money to be made if you are smart, driven, and focus on the less shiny parts of the economy where competition is low (Planes, trains and automobiles, to quote someone above). As a bonus, you get to work on (to some people) more tangible work. Not to mention, at F500s, even at 150K, you would get teams under you, rather than being an IC.
11/5/2022: Hiring on my team.
Hiring into a Strategic Analysis Manager role at a F500 headquartered in Atlanta. Role will have 1-2 direct reports and is on team responsible for analysis of strategic initiatives, M&A, etc.
Looking for someone with ~2-5 years tier 1 or 2 strategy consulting experience.
Base ~140K, TC~195K. Lots of opportunity for promotion (with major TC increases), and long term career potential.
Excellent work life balance. 2 days per week in office (Midtown Atlanta). 3 days remote. 8 hour days, No travel (unless desired). 4+weeks vacation. Option to purchase more vacation. High end gym in office. And lots more. Team has happy ex-consultants who are never going back!
Need exceptionally good Excel skills. PPT/Structured Communication skills in line with strong senior consultants/associates. Decent SQL as well. Due Diligence project experience would be looked upon very favorably.
DM if you are interested. This is one of the teams that reports to me (also a happy ex-consultant).
~$200k base, $350k RSUs over 4 years, 20% target bonus. 7 YOE. Should have exited to tech a loooong time ago

4 years out of mba and 550k, good stuff
I appreciate the detail on comp in this thread. It’s very difficult when people leave consulting to hear literally every person say “I’m making way more and only work 30 hours!!” and yet when you search for those jobs they’re unicorns.
Personally I value equity and cash differently so I was looking to be close to whole on cash and get some equity upside.
Working at a PE-owned tech company in Strategy. Had 8 YoE in MBB consulting and left at Principal. Total cash comp (base and bonus) is 300k. Annual equity worth between 180k at low estimation and 225k on the higher end of the range.
Equity estimates are from the board - they regularly update the equity value and also have an exit target in mind for their investment case that was made when they acquired the company in the first place. I don’t value it as sure as cash obviously but based on trajectory we’ve had over the past year would expect to meet or exceed the middle ground estimated value.
As for other comments on PE those are all generalities. I would not advocate people join PE-owned businesses as a general broad rule. There’s way too much variation in firms and companies, management teams, business trajectory and culture, etc.
I personally wouldn’t join a PE owned company where the strategy is cost cutting. I joined one where the strategy is very much a growth play fueled in a big way by M&A (essentially take a strong player, buy a ton of other competitors in adjacent software areas to build an enterprise platform in your vertical). This interested me and the focus was on growth vs cost cutting.
As for the vision and job security pieces I also chose a company where I really felt the actual management team carried a vision (as I see the the PE company as managing through metrics and benchmarks with a surface level strategy and thesis). I also chose a company with a culture that centered in part on people. Doesn’t prevent layoffs if they were ever needed but it’s not the first place they would go.
All this to say - you really need to know what you’re getting into with PE and vet the opportunity. Many can give you decent comp but you want to know the role is right and it’s something you’d expect to be around in long enough to realize the payoff.

$550K TC at target. Industrials giant, Not tech
Base $280k, balance is a mix of cash and stock granted each year

I worked mostly on planes, trains and automobiles ;) with the occasional truck or tractor thrown in. Pre-mba experience was in manufacturing for a large industrial company as well

Why are people posting non-tech in this thread? Just flexing?
I like it, keep it coming. This bowl is super tech biased, so it’s nice seeing other exits that match the vaunted tech exits.
TC 360 + 30K sign on 7.5yoe
And what type of role is it at your tech company?

Took some negotiation, a lot of external experience outside of consulting, but also fortunate that they were in need to quickly hire for the role.

seems like good tc boost
When yall write 7 or w.e. YOE are you talking total or just in consulting.
Asking as someone who got into consulting after 9 years elsewhere
I account for total, but it has all been in two B4
Data science @ Square. 160k base and 200k/4 RSU. 3.5 YOE
WLB has been good so far. Manager and team are great. Have heard it can vary across the org from team to team, but suppose that applies to almost any company. DS WLB is ok. We do have deadlines to meet and it’s not “as” acceptable to spend much time researching and googling as you are expected to be a SME in your respective field (DS). Most consulting gigs you can learn on the job (and bill the client for it) - but have found in tech so far you need to have the chops.

That’s pretty hype for a low CoL city
Guess I’m low 😂. SA at high tech company in SF. 3 YOE, $130k base and 8% bonus. 10% of base ESPP at 15% discount
What’s TC, is it per annum or is it base + stock spread over 4 years?
M2 covered it accurately. The initial grant tends to be higher than the annual refreshers, but usually by the time your cliff arrives you usually get promoted and those promotional grants often make up the difference.
$520k target, industrials Corp strategy. Base is $275k.
Initially I targeted tech, but couldn’t match this.
IC6 is ~M1. IC8 is ~ director.
Not a ton of ic6, but on the flip side I think everyone on my team is ic6 except me so it isn't like it isn't doable. Plus with our growth ic6 spots will continue to open.
There are no corporate strategy teams at Google and Facebook FYI
Google has one. It’s the BizOps team which is about 50 folks and does overall strategy and then there’s also Strategy and Operations teams within each business unit.
