Perks of being laid off and working local: no more flight and hotel reminders, no more shitty project, less politics and back biting. After 10 years I can say I have a life now.

C1: almost same compensation with zero travel.. I am in tech so I think that is the reason why the paycut was not that much.

Yay! Enjoy it - sounds like you earned a breather

Hopefully you put away some money

OW1: big yes

That great. Probably got a package from the company that laid you off too

M1: you mean severance?

Yes

M1: definitely. Big 4 usually does.

Pretty decent severance after 10 years?

I realized I've been a dummy for getting a job at a creative agency and not working on my portfolio. Most of the projects I've taken on, I've done so as a way to support others without taking much credit for it. Now, a better opportunity came along and I don't have anything to show for my talent as a designer. ALWAYS take credit for what you do, even if it's not your project to begin with.

I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB. I’m very interested in the opportunity but also don’t want to make a poor financial decision early in my career. Thank you for your time!

What are some of the best books you’ve read about people and investing? Such as dealing with people (business psychology almost) and then investing (real estate more specifically)!

I am looking for books that give practical advice, not just big picture theory and motivation.
