Serenity Rooms. I thought they were for relaxing when I joined the firm. Found out the real reason for them when I caught a dirty look from a new mom on my way out of one (I'm a male and was genuinely naive). Apologized sincerely when I figured it all out.

The clients I’ve been at have had nursing rooms but they’re just a room with a lock, no sink, no fridge. One client went so far as to say that breastmilk is not to be stored in the break room fridge and that nursing moms are to provide their own cooler

What benefits for nursing moms

They are supposedly not just for nursing mothers. Not at Deloitte anyway.

The are for everyone's wellbeing... but yes, breastfeeding Moms should have priority.
With all the bitching about PA, we do have some great accommodations and perks.

Op you were really referring to nursing rooms as a great accommodation? Do most businesses not have something like this? A lot of my clients do

It's the law to provide nursing accommodations

It's the law for every employer to have nursing/pumping rooms with a lock, that aren't a bathroom, but I will agree that the pwc ones are quite accommodating. They're spacious, there's more than one, they provide a comfortable chair, there is a fridge for storing milk and a sink for washing pump parts, and even a microwave for sterilizing (or warming up food if you're pumping over lunch).

I hear you OP. It's even worse if you're in PCS, as clients with less than 50 people aren't even required to do that. I once pumped in a storage closet with a large file box in front of the door as a "lock" when I was at a small client.

One of my managers had to pump in the bathroom stall at our shitty manufacturing client site straight out of the 1980s... I felt bad she had to do that

There are Serenity Rooms AND Nursing Mother's rooms. No side eye necessary

Pwc 3, they are actually, unless they specifically apply for an exemption.

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage.

I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest.

Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?

I come from a pure healthcare background and have minimal finance skills/experience. Want to eventually get in healthcare investing in a MM PE fund.

Is there anyway that I can start to make moves on this, while at my Big 4? Who are the best types of folks to reach out to at my Big 4?

Anything I should get smart on? Websites, podcasts, books to read?

Is anyone concerned the push for sexual equality in pay without accordant leveling of parental leave is gonna backfire?

Here’s a hypothetical:

A company has 2 candidates, aged 25-30, equal in every respect save one’s a man the other’s a woman. Maybe the woman is a slightly better candidate overall. They’d have equal comp.

Company considers the woman a riskier bet due to possibility she’ll take maternity leave — and considers the man less risky for his ineligibility to take as much leave. 🤷

Is it too late in our lives to jump into a mortgage?

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.

I would report directly to the controller and have 1-2 staff reporting to me...

How normal is it to be pulled off a trial team because you tell your boss you are moving after trial? I have a trial coming up first week of Oct. This case has been my baby, and I’m going to try it with my boss. I tell my boss up front that, for family reasons, I’ve gotten a new job and will be moving to another city two weeks after trial will likely end. He then gives my trial witnesses to another attorney, but is still going to make me do grunt work. Is he unreasonable or am I?
