I got H1B Visa and 83000 USD dollar petition amount as annual package.I am confused as this amount will be enough to survive there with wife and 7 year old daughter. My wife is working here and together we are earning 50LPA annual. We are settled here by owning house too.Confusion is my wife will not be able to work there on H4 Visa so the kind of life we are living here will not be possible there.Thoughts?Suggestions?Pros and Cons?

Same A3... definitely don’t feel behind. Probably I thought I was ahead... then I read this thread haha. Though, I suppose “ahead” is very relative. To our peers on FB, we may seem in line, but truly against our peers in the world, we are likely far ahead
Started investing since 24 making 40k a year to 160k
Net value is 1.6 million
32 - $575k ($250 401k, 130k Roth, 100k brokerage, 10k cryptos, 50k investment property, 35k cash) not including about 200k in home equity or spouses $$. With a goal to retire by 45
29, saved $50k including 401k
23 60k including 401k
30 $285k. Excludes equity in 2 condos.
38 - 1.4M, 1.2M excluding primary residence
P1 - for me it was starting early and being diligent. I’m surprised at how many young 20 somethings have the opportunity to start saving but they don’t because they either don’t know better or prioritize spending. But it did suck putting away so much money when I was like 22-25. Also had to pay for a ring and put my wife through grad school without taking any loans.
Buy moissanite wedding rings. Diamonds are for chumps!
29, 350k split between investments and 401k
No land owned
I had low paying jobs $40-$50k while in grad school (life sciences) and then switching careers was tough with zero negotiation leverage or business skills. Places I worked did not even offer benefits. Eventually got traction but now I feel 3-4 years behind financially where I would have like to have been. I’m stashing away as much as I can while I can!
PwC3, how do you have so much in your Traditional/Roth IRA at only 29?
We actually live in NYC with a kid. Since I started working made sure to max 401k and Roth. Invested in stocks on the side. Wife works full time and has separate retirement and investment accounts, around same worth as mine. We just don’t really spend much besides mortgage and food and use points for travel.
24, staff, $142k including 401k
EY - How have you saved that much!
28, SA
$106k (37k Roth IRA, 34.5k Taxable, 34.5k 401k)
Home Value: $700k
Outstanding Mortgage: $487k)
35 - $550k including 401k, IRA, taxable investments and cash. Excludes home equity.
32 - $470k excluding the house
And the wedding
PW3 That makes more sense - dual income makes a tremendous difference. I suspect most of the high numbers above are dual.
